ReEnchanted - Opening Sequence

Our tale begins at the castle of the royal family, where a lavish baby shower is underway.

In fact, a song (lyrics to come) by that very title ushers us into the proceedings, exuding everyone's excitement towards the impending heir~ ~ ~

While the song is sung, we see various scenes: ~the finishing touches to the royal nursery ~the procession of royal subjects coming to present gifts to King Edward and Queen Nancy ~the King and Queen themselves, side-by-side upon their thrones, warmly receiving said gifts

At one point (spoken, during an interlude) the Seven Dwarves present a cart.

We just discovered this in our gem mine, and now present to you, the finest Ruby Quartz!

KING EDWARD My! Isn't that easy on the eyes.

Though throughout the festivities, the Queen appears somewhat distracted, until finally. . .

QUEEN NANCY Edward -it's definitely time!

KING EDWARD (singing) All of you stand by!-

QUEEN NANCY Edward?

KING EDWARD (singing) -Just await our baby's cries!

GUESTS (singing)

Baby Shower!

Baby Shower!

QUEEN NANCY It's sure to take some hours.

Edward carefully whisks her away.

KING EDWARD

(singing)

Enjoy yourselves while we take care of thi-i-i-i-s!

GUESTS

(singing)

We soon will meet the royal little mi-i-i-i-s!

QUEEN NANCY (O/S) Well not that soon, I'm sure-

From the Royal Hall

INT - Royal Bedroom - Several Moments Later

KING EDWARD -It's her!

The Queen seems at ease following her short time of exertion.

QUEEN NANCY

Wow, things truly are simple in Andulasia!

However, the nursemaid is acting oddly, bundling the infant kindly yet with an unfortunate conveyance.

Queen Nancy notices, though King Edward strides over obliviously to see his new daughter, as she's set in the Queen's arms.

QUEEN NANCY (surprised not alarmed) Oh!

King Edward, however, is shocked.

He gasps! In a state of consternation.

KING EDWARD

Oh no! How can this be?

QUEEN NANCY

It's alright, Edward.

Cradling their daughter in one arm, she offers an assuring touch to her husband with her other hand.

QUEEN NANCY (CONT'D) She's perfectly fine. These things just happen sometimes.

KING EDWARD But not here! I mean-

He glances towards the nursemaid, as though suddenly self-conscious that even she knows.

KING EDWARD (CONT'D) (lowered voice) -in no way is this perfectly fine!

QUEEN NANCY

Edward! How can you reject our own daughter?!

Unexpectedly, Edward looks quite hurt- -shocked anew.

KING EDWARD Reject her?! Why- no!

He leans in closer again to the little bundle, this time brushing a tender hand over her.

KING EDWARD (CONT'D) She's the most wonderful sight to my eyes in all the land. I could never reject her. Though others are sure to feel differently.

This strikes Nancy as curious.

QUEEN NANCY They'll accept her. This is Andulasia, the land of happily-ever-after.

KING EDWARD Yes, Andulasia, where few who are different are seen.

Haven't you noticed, my dear? Who can you count, but seven?

Nancy realizes he's right.

KING EDWARD (CONT'D)

Instead of smiles and invitations to balls, she'll be met with looks askance and offers of a bell tower.

QUEEN NANCY That's ridiculous. That can't be the way it is.

KING EDWARD Yes, well. . .

He crosses to the window, where down below we can see the crowd waiting excitedly.

KING EDWARD (CONT'D) . . .I'd better say something.

He throws open the arched window casements, assuming a smile as he calls down to his subjects.

KING EDWARD The princess has had a rather tiring day, being born and all! You will all be informed of the date of the royal viewing.

Queen Nancy and I extend our full and humble thanks once more for the gifts bestowed upon our family upon this memorable day, and bid thee well. Dismissed!
